COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Megaro Memorial Home takes pride in the many community endeavors we are involved in. For more than 80 years, the Megaro Family has been the proud sponsors of many youth and adult athletic teams in Belleville, Nutley, Bloomfield, and Newark. This diverse group has included youth baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, adult softball, basketball, and bowling. Our teams have won over 125 championships and awards. Our trophy and plaque collection is so extensive, it is impossible to display all of the awards at one time.

Some of our youth baseball players during their high school careers have been selected to:

• New Jersey All-State First Team
• Essex County First Team
• 2001 Quad Town Player of the Year
• 2001 Worrall Communications Player of the Year

In addition, many of our athletes have participated in College and University athletics.

In 1951, along with their bother-in-law Dominick A. Cundari (a licensed funeral director and attorney), the Megaro brothers established the Megaro-Cundari Welfare Association in a building overlooking the funeral home parking lot. This organization was comprised of the most financially and politically powerful men and women in the Newark area. Over the years, the association and its Ladies Auxiliary contributed many thousands of dollars to needy charities and groups throughout Essex County. Each year we offer the Rose Louise Megaro Music Scholarship to a graduate of Nutley High School who will be a major in music during his or her college studies.

Pasquale and Christine Megaro are active participants in and help to sponsor the Mary and Martha Soup Kitchen of Christ Episcopal Church in Belleville. This program helps to feed and clothe the homeless and less fortunate of the community. Throughout the years we have been called upon to assist many of our local churches, veteran’s groups, senior citizens, schools, and organizations.
