Obituary

Dianne Salandra
An Extraordinary Human Being

Dianne Salandra (nee Iannuzzi), 59, of West Caldwell, passed away Friday, September 7,2018.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 11 from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Megaro Memorial Home, 503 Union Avenue, Belleville, NJ 07109. Mass will be Wednesday, September 12 at St. Lucy’s Church, 118 7th Avenue, Newark, NJ 07104 as Dianne was devoted to St. Gerard her whole life. Following mass, entombment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ 07936.

Dianne was born and raised in Newark where she attended First Avenue Elementary School. She graduated from East Orange Catholic High School, Class of 1976, and Seton Hall University, Class of 1980, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. For the majority of her teaching career, Dianne was a beloved fourth grade teacher for twenty-nine years at her alma matter, First Avenue. She was a truly dedicated professional who mentored many student teachers using her honed skills and pleasant demeanor. Her dedication to special needs and disabled students inspired her colleagues to participate in various activities promoting inclusion.

In addition to Dianne Salandra’s admirable career, she was an extraordinary human being. She exuded warmth and love to all those who were fortunate enough to encounter her persona. She was totally dedicated to her family, especially her son, Thomas Gerard. Dianne always put family above everything else. She was truly devoted to her husband of thirty years, caring for her beloved mother, and other close family members. She managed to find time to volunteer weekly at Willing Hearts of Caldwell. She enjoyed a much-loved circle of friends from the West Essex community, in addition to her dear friends from Newark, too numerous to count.

She is survived by her mother Rose Marie Iannuzzi (nee Calabrese), her husband Thomas, her son Thomas Gerard, and her fur baby Bella Rose. Also, surviving is her aunt Barbara Giacalone (Aunt Bobbie) and many beloved cousins. She is predeceased by her beloved father, Angelo V. Iannuzzi, who passed away January 26, 2010.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in memory of Dianne to the West Essex First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 642, West Caldwell, NJ 07006 and the North Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department, 141 Gould Avenue, North Caldwell, NJ 07006.
