Gilberto A. Cobas, 86, of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019.
Born in Havana, Cuba to the late Antonio and Felicia (nee Peraza) Cobas, Gilberto came to the United States in 1959. He resided in Belleville for many years, and Florida since 2002.
Before retiring in 1994, Gilberto was a warehouseman for the Wakefern Food Corporation in Elizabeth for 30 years. Previously, Gilberto was a Police Officer in his native Cuba. He was a member of the Lion's Club in Cuba.
Gilberto is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carmen (nee Suarez), son Antonio and his wife Luisa Castro, grandsons Jake Antonio and Luke Ryan, nephews Guido Aguiar, Vincent Farina, Javier Suarez, Gabriel Suarez, nieces Cynthia Alvarez, Susan Dias, Helen Soto, and Elizabeth Farina, in laws Susan Aguiar (nee Suarez), Leonor (nee Suarez) and Vicente Farina, Reynaldo and Miriam Suarez (nee Somodevilla), cousins Pastor Gonzalez, Hector Gonzalez, Sandra Gonzalez, Lauren Gonzalez, Adita Gonzalez, Luis Gonzalez, Jessie Gonzalez, Ashley Gonzalez, Vivian Gonzalez, Alanis Gonzalez, and Michael Gonzalez.
Visitation is Monday 5-9 pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Gilberto's mass Tuesday 10 am at St. Peter's Church in Belleville. Please arrive at 9:45 am.
Cremation is private.
A memorial mass will be celebrated 10 am, Saturday, August 31, 2019 at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida
Gilberto's ashes will be interred following the mass 1 pm in the family plot at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Doral, Florida
