John Batista Conti, 91, of Belleville NJ, born on October 27, 1928, and passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, January 28, 2020. John was inducted into the US Army in 1951 during the Korean War and attained the rank of Sergeant. He earned a BA Degree in mechanical design from Stevens Institute, Hoboken, and designed industrial-sized pumps such as those used for the levees in New Orleans, LA. He and Concetta "Connie" Catalfamo were married in 1955 had four children Liz, John, Susan, and Karen.
Starting out, John purchased a four-family building in Newark and later bought and renovated a single- family home in Belleville where his children grew up.
He enjoyed the beach and Barnegat Bay at his summer home down the Jersey shore. His family will sorely miss boating and crabbing, and going to the beach with him.
John retired from Worthington/Dresser Pump in Harrison after 30 years but was called back to learn the CAD design system and advise new employees. He and his wife Connie enjoyed touring the country together in their RV and made the trek to Alaska two times.
Everyone loved Johnnie and he will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, son, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom he adored as well as his wife of 65 years.
He is survived by his wife Connie; daughter Liz Keoghan, her husband Leo, and their daughter Kate Keoghan; son John Conti Jr., his wife Claire, and their children John Conti and Valerie Conti; daughter Karen Moses and her daughter Hannah Moses; daughter Susan Conti, her husband Werner Nagelschmidt, and their daughters Heidi Nagelschmidt, Shannon Katz, her husband Craig and their two children Nina Katz and Craig Katz, Brielle Clancy, her husband Todd and their two children Tristan Clancy and Braedan Clancy. He was preceded in death by his sisters Terry Cappetta, Joan Montalbano, and Paula Tauriello.
Visitation is 10:00-12:00 Saturday, February 8, 2020. Services will be conducted at 12 pm (noon), followed by interment with Military Honors at 12:30 pm in Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield, NJ.
After the completion of services, a repast will be at The Chandelier, 340 Franklin Avenue, Belleville.
