Michael Masi was born in Newark, New Jersey on July 26, 1924 to the parentage of Robert and Angelina. Following his graduation from Central High School in Newark, Michael along with his brothers, Nicholas and Robert, owned and operated Essex House Novelty Corp., an embroidery company in New York City. In 1962, the three brothers founded Newark Drug which was located on Broad St. in downtown Newark and operated until 1981 when Michael retired. Newark Drug gained much notoriety as one of the first outlets for the New Jersey State Lottery and the event was covered by the Star-Ledger and Channel 4 News.
Michael was an active member of the Knights of Pythias in New York City and several senior citizen groups in the Newark area.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia; his sons, Michael V., Jr. and Nicholas R. and his wife, Stefania; a daughter, Angela Osborne; two brothers, Nicholas and Robert; and a sister, Rita Marinelli. Michael also leaves two grandchildren, Chloe and Victor.
